Well, things are shaping up a bit differently than I had first anticipated! Where to start...
I'm in Germany now, since the 7th. It's really beautiful, the weather has been fantastic, always sunny and warm. One of the amazing things is that even when the sun is out blasting down its warming light, I don't really feel hot. In Canada when it's hot it's really hot, and when it's cold it's very cold. Here, that doesn't seem to happen so much. The warm days are just that: warm. It makes it really nice for someone like me who is overweight and prone to sweating.
I had one day just at the house and hanging out with my host family before my language course started. It ended up that the only course that was near us on the right days was a level 2 course, so I dove right into a very hard experience. Everyone in the class already speaks at least basic German, enough so that the teacher only speaks German. It's very, very hard and extremely mentally exhausting work, but I think I'm learning. I understand a lot of what's being said through context, words I already knew, and words that sound like english. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks I'll be able to speak enough German to communicate with the girls.
Speaking of the girls, they are ridiculously cute. The twins are very shy and only steal glances when they think I'm not looking. The older girl is much more vocal. She speaks to me in German and I mostly just nod along and agree a lot. It's hard to connect with someone you don't speak the same language as, but it will come with time.
That's about it for news. It's the weekend now so I don't have language school again until Monday. The reason I haven't been posting is because the internet here doesn't work in my room! It's a really big house, and my room is at the opposite end of the router. They have a rebounder near my end that's supposed to increase the signal, but it's not working very well. So I write this as I sit at the kitchen table after having a late breakfast.
I want to upload all the pictures from my Toronto trip, as well as what I've taken since I've been here already, but that will have to wait until I get stable internet. For now, I'll put up two pictures from Germany. The first is one of my amazing room, and the other is the car they gave me to drive around. I'm really loving it here so far, even though I don't think I'll ever get used to wearing my shoes in the house!
Tschüss!
